Revenge was sweet for the Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team Tuesday evening when it stormed past Hamilton 61-37.

The Hawkeyes last March ended the ‘Cats season in the district semifinals. But this time it was different.

Wayland went into the ballgame sporting a deceptive 1-3 overall record, having lost to Division 1 opponents Caledonia and Byron Center and Division 2 perennial power West Catholic.

Senior Reese Coughlin and junior Harmony Laker shared individual scoring honors with 23 points apiece. Coughlin swished three three-point field field goals and Laker had one.

Sophomore Addy Sikorski chipped in eight points.

The loss dropped Hamilton to 2-2 overall.

Wayland will play Lowell Saturday afternoon at the Cornerstone University Classic.

The Wildcat boys’ team suffered a 62-48 defeat at the hands of Hamilton Tuesday and its overall record sank to 1-5.

Meanwhile, the Martin boys’ varsity lost 76-42 to Grand Rapids Wellspring Prep to fall to 0-7 on the season.
