The Wayland boys’ tennis team took on visiting Zeeland East on Tuesday night, and while Zeeland came away with a 7-1 win, coach Ben Adams said the Wildcats played competitively as they prepare for the conference tournament Thursday.

The lone win for Wayland came at third singles, as Chesney Hudson took his opponent to a third set tie-breaker to decide the match.  In what turned out to be a battle of wills,  Chesney took the first set 7-6 (decided by a tie-breaker), dropped the second set 4-6, then was the first to score 10 points in the third set, as his opponent came back from a 6-3 deficit to make it close, 10-8.

The Wildcats will look to be competitive in the O-K Gold Conference tournament, as they meet South Christian, TK, Grand Rapids West Catholic, Grand Rapids Union, Northview and Wyoming in a three-round match tournament to decide the final conference standings.
