Wildcats blanked 3-0 in season finale; districts at Gull Lake

The Wayland boys’ soccer team comWHS soccerpleted its season Wednesday night at East Grand Rapids in the rain, losing 3-0 in an O-K Gold Conference match.

“The game started with the Wildcats dominating possession and chances for the majority of the first half but were unable to find a way past the Pioneer keeper,” coach Ben Sleeman said.

“The second half was a different story as it was the Wildcat defense that was under pressure for most of the half right from the kickoff. Jake Larsen made some big saves to keep his team in the match, but two nice goals late in the half proved to be the difference before the Pioneers put away a late third goal as the clock ticked down.”

The loss dropped Wayland’s overall season record to 3-13-1 and 2-10 in the O-K Gold.

The Wildcats will play their first round district game next Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Gull Lake High School. The game kicks off at 6 p.m.
