The Wayland boys’ varsity soccer team TuWHS socceresday scored its second victory this season over O-K Gold Conference rival Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, by a 3-0 count.

It was the third win of the season overall for the Wildcats.

“The game got off to a fast start with Chuck Wroblewski’s shot saved off the line less than 10 seconds into the game,” said coach Ben Sleeman. “The Wildcats didn’t let up and pressured the Trojan defense for the next 10 minutes before the home team really found its footing.”

Both teams saw chances to take the lead in the half, but it was the Wildcats who would strike first on a goal by senior Tristen Ortiz. His score would prove to be the difference in the half as the teams headed into the break.

The second half was all Wildcats as they continued to pour it on the Trojan defense. Matis Bohnhorst scored his first goal of the season, and Chuck Wroblewski netted his 10th to seal the victory for the visitors.

Goalie Jake Larsen made four saves to preserve the shutout and the win.

The boys take to the road again Thursday as they head to South Christian. The game kicks off at 7:15 p.m. at the South Christian Sports Complex.
