The Wayland boys’ varsity tennis team finished is O-K Gold Conference dual match season this week with a 6-2 loss to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and a 7-1 defeat at the hands of South Christiab.

The Wildcats, 1-5 in league play and 2-7 overall, will play Saturday, Oct. 5, in the O-K Gold tournament. Meanwhile, they will conclude their dual match season against Hastings next Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Winning for Wayland versus TK were Jose Daniel Garcia, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and the fourth doubles team of Mark Musgrave and Nolan Ritz, 6-7, 6-1, 7-5.

Garcia pulled out a couple of tight matches, 7-6, 7-5, over his No. 1 singles opponent from South Christian.

Coach Cheri Ritz had praise for the performances of Brady Atwell and Elijah Kincaid at second doubles, Jackson Chesley at fourth singles and Lucas Niemchick and Kevin Keena at No. 5 doubles.
