The Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team improved its O-K Gold Conference record to 2-1 and 6-2 overall with a 73-48 win at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 8 in the first state-wide Class B poll by the Associated Press, led by 10, 33-23, at the half and pulled away afterward.

Junior Carter Nyp scored 19 points and gathered eight rebounds. Avery Hudson and Mitchell Dykstra had 14 points apiece and Zack Nieuwkoop had 11 points and 10 assists. Hudson and Nieuwkoop both were plagued by fouls throughout the contest.

Wayland will play next at 6 p.m. Friday at Wyoming.
