The Wayland boys’ varsity tennis team opened O-K Gold Conference dual match action this season Wednesday with a 5-3 loss to Grand Rapids South Christian.

The Wildcats traditionally have had little success against South Christian, but this time came within one match of achieving a tie.

Dillon Kelly improved his season record to 5-6 at third singles with a 6-4 victory and Colin and Christian Siefert teamed up to win a tight three-set contest at first doubles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Triston Richards earned his second victory of the season against no losses by winning by default.

The Wildcats will compete at the Lakewood Invitational Saturday.
