Wildcats have 14-game skid 2 years after ending 17-game streak

Boys-Football-200x112It wasn’t much more than two years ago that Wayland’s football team ended a 17-game losing streak.

Now the Wildcats are staring at a 14-game losing skid that stretches back to November 2013. No. 14 came Friday evening at Greenville in a 31-6 verdict.

The much-maligned defense did a much better job Friday night for Wayland, but it still went into the loss column. The Wildcats thus far this season have yielded 172 points in four games, an unenviable average of 43 per contest.

Wayland’s last victory came in the opening round of the post-season playoffs against Plainwell. The squad went 0-9 in 2014 and now are 0-4 under new head coach Mike Doupe.

Tanner VanDyke had 225 yards passing and a TD pass to Gage Stancell, who hauled in 7 passes for 119 yards.

Greenville, with the win, now has a 2-2 overall record this season. The Yellowjackets are members of the O-K Bronze Conference.
