The Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team picked up its third victory in four starts this season Tuesday evening with a 53-37 victory over non-league opponent Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.

Coach Mike Hudson indicated it was a solid defensive effort and balanced scoring that helped the Wildcats to prevail. Nine Wayland players broke into the scoring column.

Senior 6-8 pivot Cory Ainsworth, fresh from his MVP performance Saturday in the I-96 challenge, dropped in 16 points and collected 11 rebounds to score his third double-double already this season. Senior guard Carson Sevigny added 10 points.

The victory lifted the Wildcats’ overall record to 3-1 and they will compete next in the annual Cornerstone Tournament over the holiday break.
