imgThe Wayland varsity baseball team absorbed a pair of defeats at the hands of Plainwell Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep.

The Wildcats, seeing their first action since spring break, lost 9-1 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.

Coach Travis Wilcox said the Wildcats had opportunities to either tie or take the lead in that second game, but couldn’t muster key hits in those situations.

Taking the hardluck loss on the mound for Wayland was Carter Morse, who went the distance, allowing two runs, neither one earned, on four hits while striking out four.

Morse also had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-2. Keaton McNees scored the lone run for the Wildcats in the fourth inning. The Trojans scored twice in the third.

Wayland will be back in action Thursday when hosting host the defending Division 1 District Champion Bulldogs of Byron Center. First pitch of the double-header is set for 4:15 p.m.
