Mike Hudson 2-6There have been some changes in the latest Associated Press Class B state-wide boys’ basketball poll, most importantly with Wayland moving up from No. 4 to No. 3.

The Wildcats moved up a notch and Wyoming Godwin Heights, rated No. 1 all season long, fell to No. 2 after a 57-54 defeat last Tuesday at the hands of Class A nonleague opponent Portage Northern. The Wolverines now are 15-2, with both losses to Class A teams. Wayland’s only loss this season also was to a Class A opponent, Forest Hills Central.

As reported on this site earlier, the two hoops powerhouses will square off in the Class B district opener Monday at South Christian High School.

One team among the top four all season, New Haven, tumbled in this week’s ranking list because of two losses. The Rockets fell from No. 3 to No. 5.

The Wildcat boys can clinch at least a share of the O-K Gold Conference championship tonight with a win at South Christian and they can win the league crown outright Friday if they can win at Ottawa Hills.
