The Wayland varsity footbaKyle Jansen (3)ll team had its overall season record evened at 1-1 Friday evening with a 27-8 loss at Adrian.

The Wildcats fell behind 20-0 in the first half and did not score until there were only 27 seconds left in the ballgame.

The officil report on the web site declared, “The Adrian defense stymied the Wildcats’ offense early, setting up an early lead. A few miscues by the Wildcats’ special teams also help set up two Adrian scores.”

Wayland’s only touchdown came on a 61-yard pass from Carter Morse to Jake Omness.

Wayland was coming off a terrific offensive performance in its season opener, a 54-16 romp over Grand Rapids Union. However, the offense was held scoreless by the Maple Leafs for three quarters and almost the entire game.

The Wildcats will begin O-K Gold Conference play Friday evening at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
