Wayland started its football season Thursday night a lot like it did a year ago, with an impressive victory.

The Wildcats posted a 35-0 shutout victory over Grand Rapids Union at Houseman Field. They scored almost 20 more points against the Red Hawks a a year ago, 54-16, but this time the bruising defense turned in a shutout.

The stingy ‘Cats defensive unit only yielded 59 total yards. On the offensive side, Wayland relied on a consistent run game led by senior Mason Miller (89 yards), Carter Morse (56 yards), and Braeden Anderson (41 yards).

The Wildcats scored in every quarter and Austin Wroblewski  booted all five extra points. They led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and 21-0 at the half.

The Wildcats return home this Thursday for a nonleague contest against Adrian.
