The Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team took a hard-fought 76-69 triumph at Grand Rapids South Christian Friday night in a double overtime thriller.

Senior point guard Avery Hudson scored 36 points, including 15 of 16 free throws. Zack Nieuwkoop added 17 points and Mitchell Dykstra 11.

The victory lifted the Wildcats’ overall season record to 10-2, 6-1 in the O-K Gold Conference.

Wayland will play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Rapids Union Redhawk Showcase against Detroit Cornerstone.
