Wayland’s varsity football squad absorbed its fourth straight defeat this season Friday night in a 49-14 loss to Grand Rapids Christian.

The Wildcats started the season winning three of their first four encounters, but since then have run into league heavyweights such as undefeated and state-ranked East Grand Rapids and the once-beaten Eagles.

Christian leaped out to a 14-0 advantage in the opening quarter and was up 21-0 at the half. The ‘Cats got the board first in the third quarter and once more in the final stanza, with both six-pointers coming on passes from junior quarterback Carson Sevigny, one to Caleb Wolf and another to Lee Misak.

Wayland, now 3-5 overall for the season, will conclude its season at home next Friday evening when it entertains unbeaten Forest Hills Central.
