The Wayland varsity baseball team had a rough week, losing all four of its encounters, three to O-K Gold Conference rival Grand Rapids Christian.

The verdicts left the Wildcats’ overall record at 2-5 and 0-3 in the league.

Friday Wayland dropped a non-conference game to Coopersville by a score of 9-1. The Wildcats continued their week-long slump coming off spring break by committing six crucial errors throughout the contest.

Their lone run was produced by a leadoff double from Chris Kincaid in the sixth inning, and he was eventually brought home by a one-out RBI single off the bat of Jamie Snyder.

Grand Rapids Christian completes the series sweep Wayland Union Thursday with a 10-0 victory. The Wildcats were limited to one hit, with that hit coming from Kincaid.

Wayland dropped both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday against Grand Rapids Christian, 12-1 and 9-3.

Ben Barnes and Ethan Wood provided multiple hits for the Wildcat offense in the nightcap, while Kayd Hulst pitched four strong scoreless innings of relief. Timely hitting by the Eagles, along with multiple key errors by the Wildcats helped to propel Grand Rapids Christian to victory in the twin bill opener.
