
The Wayland softball team took both ends of.a doubleheader Friday against non-league opponent Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.
The Lady Wildcats prevailed 2-0 and 8-2.
Senior ace pitcher Madi Ludema hurled a four-hit shutout in the opener. Wayland rallied for six runs in the first two innings of the second game and held on the rest of way. Covenant Christian was limited to just three hits in the nightcap while the Wildcats came up with 13.
The verdicts come after Wayland’s split with Kalamazoo Christian Wednesday, winning the first game 11-3, but losing the second 3-2.
Wayland now owns a season record of 5-3 overall, with two of its losses coming at the hands of No. 2-ranked Ravenna in Division 3.
