Wayland Union High School Wednesday was host for Debate Day, the first in-person debate for the West Michigan Legislative Debate League.
Students competed in two workshop sessions to strengthen their debating skills and then held a chamber where they argued two pieces of legislation.
Wayland Debaters continued their strong tradition of taking home top awards.
Novices Addie Huston and Dalton Montague tied for 12th place and Ian Clevenger took seventh. Varsity members Anica Miller placed 11th, Anabelle Pogodzinski (team captain) took ninth and was only one point away from eighth, Summer Morrison (team captain) placed sixth, Carissa Yerxa placed fifth, Rylie Steuer (team captain) secured fourth place, Sydney VanPopering brought home third and novice Andrew Bastien-Burke took second.
Wildcat debate team members also welcomed back volunteer Lawrence Williams to provide valuable insights for the team.
