Wayland Friday night bounced back from two straight defeats with a 21-14 victory over Spring Lake to make it a pleasant homecoming

The Wildcats built a 21-7 advantage by halftime, but had to hang on the rest of the way. They lifted their overall season record to 3-2 with the verdict. The Lakers, with the loss, fell to 1-4.

Martin, meanwhile, captured its fifth win of the season without a loss by stopping Marcellus 40-24. The Clippers, who have not lost an eight-man football game since Sept. 15 last year against Gobles, now own a 14-game winning streak. Furthermore, they have since avenged that loss to Gobles.

Marcellus was no slouch. The Wildcats entered the contest with a 3-1 record.

Hopkins pushed its overall season record to 4-1 with a 14-6 victory at Comstock Park. It was the third straight win for the Vikings and the host Panthers fell to 0-5.
