Though the hallWHS girls' golf states at Wayland High School have been abuzz all week because of homecoming, there was a pause Thursday to wish the Lady Wildcats golf team, which will compete in the Division 3 state championship at the Forest Akers Golf Course at Michigan State University.

The ‘Cats will tee off Friday morning and finish Saturday.

They qualified for the state tourney by finishing third in the regional tournament last week. They also placed third in the O-K Gold Conference standings behind two teams, Hastings and Grand Rapids South Christian, which also qualified for the state tournament.

This will be the fourth time that senior Ali Martus has qualified for the competition as an individual. She finished 10th as a sophomore and a junior to earn all-state accolades. This season she had an amazing streak of 13 consecutive matches or tournaments in which she broke 80 for 18 holes or 40 for nine. She also set the school record for 18 holes by firing a 75 and for nine holes by carding a 35.

Joining Martus as team members are Alexis Kirschbaum, Hunter Fenton, Lauren Drew, Marisa Schild and Devin Bartell.
