WMS student Emily Fox interviews WWII vet William Karpowicz

It’s not every day you get to meet a World War II veteran. Approximately 492 of them die each day. They are mostly in their 90s.

William Karpowicz, age 91, visited the middle school Monday to attend their annual Pearl Harbor Day remembrance program. Prior to the assembly, eighth grade students interview local veterans and thank them for their service.

Emily Fox, WMS student, was fortunate to be able to sit and talk with Mr. Karpowicz about his experience in the war where he served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945.  He fought in the battles at Iwo Jima, Bougainville and Guam and received a purple heart.

He brought along his book, “My Military History,” he wrote to share with others his military experiences from the warBill Karpowicz Emily Fox.  He has donated the book to the middle school library.  He said he wanted to write it so others wouldn’t forget.
