Wayland High School’s football stadium will be host to a women’s semi-professional football game at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24.

Wayland Union Schools Supt. Tim Reeves told the Board of Education Monday night that Wayland agreed to rent the football field to the Grand Rapids Tidal Waves, who will be the home team for a game against the East Tennessee Valkyrie.

Both teams are members of the Women’s Football Alliance, which oversees about 60 teams nationwide.

This event is free for faculty, staff, and students with an ID. For others, admission is as follows Adults: $10, Kids (11 and over): $5 Kids (10 and under): Free.

Wayland High School Athletic Boosters will have concessions available.

In other business Monday, the school board:

• Heard a presentation from middle school, teacher and coach Bill Byers, who is coordinating Wayland Middle School seventh- and eighth-graders’ planned trip to Washington D.C. in March 2026. He acknowledged the trip will be a little more expensive than in the past, but he added this will be the first time students and their chaperones will make the trip via an airplane rather than a bus or train.

  • Noted a one-year contract between the board and Wayland Union Education Association (teachers) has been approved. The board will consider the pact at its meeting in June.
  • Was told the contract renewal with Chartwells for food service in 2025-26 has proposed a 3 percent increase and one-time administrative fee.
  • Approved a proposed trip by high school orchestra to Nashville March 12-15, 2026.
