The West Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters training center at 700 Reno Drive is nearing completion at its site just south of General RV.

The center, approved unanimously a year ago by the Wayland City Planning Commission will serve as a training school for carpenters and millwrights, employing 20 people and welcoming as many as 220 young people as apprentices in a year-round program.

The building, deliberately easily seen from the U.S.-131 expressway from Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids, will include a five- classroom training center and a union hall with offices.
