Area firefighters battled a blaze Tuesday morning that destroyed several vehicles and a pole barn in Yankee Springs Township.
A Yankee Springs spokesperson said the fire first was reported at M-179 and Payne Lake Road. Departments from Hastings, Orangeville, Wayland and Thornapple were summoned to the scene. They brought the blaze under control after several hours.
A pole barn at the location was a total loss, as were several vehicles in nearby buildings, but the monetary estimate of the damage has not yet been determined, not has the cause.
Officials said M-179, also known as Chief Noonday Road, was closed to traffic from Briggs Road to Patterson Avenue.
Also assisting with the public safety operation were Wayland Area Emergency Medical Services (WAEMS), B & R Excavating, Barry County Central Dispatch, Great Lakes Energy, the Barry and Allegan County sheriff’s personnel, Michigan Department of Transportation and Gun Lake McDonald’s.
There were no injuries reported.
