The Wayland boys’ soccer team “capped off a great week of play with a much deserved 1-0 win over Hopkins,” said coach Ben Sleeman Thursday evening.
The coach added, “Chuck Wroblewski netted a brilliant game-winner with under 15 minutes to go in the game and the defense held strong to preserve the win and the shutout.”
Jake Larsen made five saves in the winning effort behind a stout defensive back line.
The victory lifted the Wildcats’ overall season record to 2-5-1. Hopkins now is 3-4. Wayland played three games in three nights, taking on South Christian, Hastings and Hopkins on consecutive evenings.
The boys get back into conference play next Tuesday as they take to the road in a showdown with Wyoming. Wayland is 1-2 in league play thus far this season.
