The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team hiked its overall season record to 3-0 Saturday evening with a 59-44 verdict over visiting Cedar Springs.

Also on Saturday, the Hopkins girls more than doubled up on Grand Rapids Northview 41-20 to lift their season record to 2-1.

The Lady Wildcats bested a team that entered the contest with a 2-0 record, but the Redhawks’ two victories were against the same two teams Wayland had beaten earlier this week, Ottawa Hills and Kenowa Hills.

Wayland now owns a 3-0 record in the O-K Gold Conference, but faces a stern test Tuesday against a South Christian squad that also has won its first three games, impressively against Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and Forest Hills Eastern.

The showdown of unbeatens will take place at the Lady Wildcats’ gym.
