The Wayland High School girls’ varsity bowling team placed fourth Saturday and the boys ninth at the Grand Rapids Christian Invitational tournament at Park Center Lanes.
“All six ladies contributed today,” said coach Eric Bottrall. “We have so much upside and will only improve with time. They are extremely supportive of each other and have so much potential.” High games were turned in Kadence Bottrall with a 198 and Bella Harnish, who was first individually with games of 214, 223 and 221.
Bottrall, who finished fourth, and Harnish both were named to the all-tournament team.
Boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said her team is still growing on the lanes.
“We have been working on posting at the line and our release/follow through, and it still needs work,” she said. “Many spares were barely missed or chopped, so we are close.”
She said two freshmen bowled for the Wildcats and each one got to bowl one game, getting some valuable varsity experience.
Mark Musgrave had a 178 and Stephen Harnish was the only Wildcat to roll a 200 (along with a 183, the game in the middle cost him a bit).
In Baker matches, Mark Musgrave “marked” in 6 out of 8 frames, Deven Gardner was 5 for 8, and Chandler Caruso was 6 for 8.
