Its seems as though the O-K Silver Conference softball championship almost always comes down to Calvin Christian vs. Hopkins.

The Lady Vikings Tuesday dropped both ends of a doubleheader with Calvin, 10-1 and 8-3, absorbing their first defeats in league play this spring and suffering a major blow to any hopes of taking the league title

The Squires were clinging to a 1-1 lead going into the seventh and final inning of the opener, but then erupted for eight runs to turn a nail-biter into a cakewalk.

Sophomore ace hurler Hannah Brinks was masterful in holding Calvin in check over six innings until the wheels came off.

Offensively, Lyla Reynolds and Jessica Spray both had two hits and Cami Hibma had a double. Spray’s two-bagger drove in the Vikings’ only run. Madison Schwartz drilled three singles.

Macy Verbeek scattered eight hits to pick up the mound win.

Thing didn’t really improve much in the nightcap. Brinks returned to the mound and yielded four runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth. She worked six innings and took her second pitching loss of the day.

Avery Osborn drove in two runs with a single in the seventh inning and Spray drove in the other. Reynolds and Hibma both had two singles.

The twin bill losses dropped Hopkins overall season record to 14-10-1, 8-2 in the O-K Silver.
