Wildcats take 2nd in pre-conference tourney

The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team captured second place Friday in the Pre-Conference (O-K Gold) Pre-Tournament at Hudsonville.

Northview (Division 2 state runner-up in 2023-24 and now a member of the O-K Gold, won the tourney. Wayland came in second with 2,993 pins total. Rounding out the team scores were West Catholic 2876, Unity Christian 2763, Wyoming 2476, Thornapple Kellogg 2210, South Christian 2153 and Grand Rapids Union.

Sophomore Louie Harnish filled all eight of his Baker frames with six of them as strikes.

Senior Kyle VanEss rolled well with games of 215, 238, 199 = 652.

Coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “Unity Christian didn’t award any all tournament team medals. It would have been nice to know where Kyle finished as I am sure would have been near or at the top.

It later was announced that VanEss indeed had rolled the top score in the tourney.

“It was also nice to see our little sparkplug, lefty get some varsity experience. As a lefty, he will have an advantage as he develops in the next couple of years.”
