Hopkins boys, girls sweep Silver foes in quad meet

The Hopkins boys and girls track team both swept their three head-to-head encounters in the O-K Silver Conference quad at Grandville Calvin Christian Tuesday.

The Lady Vikings beat Wyoming Godwin Heights 138-44, Calvin Christian 131-83 and NorthPointe Christian 144-63. The Vikings guys prevailed over Godwin 156-60, Calvin Christian 136-103 and NorthPointe 151-64.

The boys’ team has lost only one, to Sparta, in the Silver dual and the girls have lost only twice, to Sparta and Belding. Both appear to be eyeing the possibility of league championships later this month.

Senior sprinter Trent Baugh turned in a personal best 23.9-second performance in the 200-meter dash and was second among all comers. He was first overall in then open 400 with a time of 53.88.

Miles Corneille surprised a lot of the half-mile enthusiasts by taking first in the 800-meter run at 2:16.86 and Kaden Edwards was third overall.

Freshman Jack Estelle finished second in the 1600 with a time of 5:01.18 and came baclk later to claim the 3200 in 11:21.92.

Jacob Helder, Clayton Kerber and Nathan Onderlinde went 2-3-4 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Noah Corneille, Helder, Miles Corneille and Baugh combined efforts to take first place in the 1600-meter relay in 4:38.65. Helder, Miles Corneille, Estelle and Edwards hooked up to win the 3200 relay in 12:11.89.

Mason Tomes and Aiden Janowsky went 1-2 in the shot put, with Tomes tossing the sphere 41-5.5. Janowsky came back to win the discus with 131-10.

Landen Klinge cleared an even 12 feet to win the pole vault and.

Baugh leaped 20-2.5 feet to take the long jump and Isaac Koperski finished second.

For the girls, freshman Riley Homrish was impressive in winning the 100-meter dash in 13.49 seconds.

Jaeden Harshberger, Navy Ingle and Kara Rodenhisler went 2-3-4 in the open 400.

Nevaeah Helderop ran the 800 in 2:44.88 to win the 800 and Harshberger was second.

Kambria Moored once again scored a first in her specialty, the hurdles, winning the 110-meter highs in 18.02 and 300-meter intermediates in 52.62.

Moored, Ellarie Baugh, Sierra Emaus and Homrich combined to win the 1600 relay in 54.21.

Madelyn Shehorn, Ava VanderVeen, Rodanhisler and Navaya Ingle won the 800 relay in 2:05.15.

Olivia Ezell and Kyle Butts finished second and third in the shot put.

Harshberger cleared 4-10 to take first in the high jump. Ellarie Baugh won the pole vault.

Emaus, Vanessa Barry and Baugh took the top three places in the long jump, with Emaus going 14-3.
