The old saying that it’s extremely difficult to beat the same opponent three times in a season unfortunately came true for the Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team Wednesday night.

The loss also was the third straight for Wayland to end the season with a whimper. The ‘Cats finished with a 14-8 overall record and were third in the O-K Gold Conference final standings.

The Lady Wildcats absorbed a 48-38 defeat at the hands of host South Christian in the semifinal round of the Division 2 district basketball tournament. They had beaten the Sailors twice during the regular season.

Junior Harmony Laker scored 21 of Wayland’s meager 38 points and she tossed in a couple of threes. Izzy Johnson also made a three, but no other Wildcat scored more than seven points.
