Clippers sweep Delton in softball doubleheader

The Martin High School softball team swept a doubleheader against Delton Wednesday, claiming 16-5 and 19-13 triumphs.

Makala Goddard went 3-for-3, including two triples and a single.

The Clippers had to rally to earn the victory, trailing 11-4 in the fifth inning.

Alley Bacon went 2-for-4 and Kyia Bozzo worked the Panthers’ pitching for four walks. The team overall had patience at the plate, collecting 12 free passes for the game.

Bacon and Bozzo each stole multiple bases.

Goddard earned the win on the mound for the Clippers, giving up five hits and striking out eight.

The Clippers scored nine runs in the first inning of the nightcap and were able to hang on the rest of the way.

Goddard earned another win in the pitching circle, giving up six hits and five runs while striking out 8. The Clippers collected 10 hits. Alley Bacon went 3-for-5, Bozzo and Anna Jager both drove in three runs. Elizabeth Reinke drilled a couple of hits. Maggie Sego led the team with four walks. Overall the Clippers had 11 walks for the game.
