Lady Vikings take twin bill to push softball record to 5-1

The Hopkins High School softball team lifted its overall season record to 5-1 Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of nonleague opponent  Zeeland East, 10-9 and 10-6.

Hailey Burch threw five and two-thirds innings in the nightcap and gave up seven hits, a walk and struck out three before giving way to reliever Morgan Fifelski. The Chix staged a four-run rally in the final inning after Hopkins had taken a 10-2 advantage.

Kyra Winchester delivered three singles and drove home a run. Hannah VanDeRoovart had a double and a single, and two RBIs, Lexi Merren came up with a single and a double and three RBIs and Jade Burch brought home a run with a triple.

Hailey Burch threw all seven innings in the opener, gave up 11 hits, 2 walks, and fanned one hitter.

Merren and Courtney Dusseau led a 16-hit Lady Vikings attack, as both drilled three singles, VanDeRoovart had a double, and Kristi Lenard had a double and a single.
