A bad day at Zeeland for both WHS bowling teams

It was a tough day for the Wayland boys’ and girls’ varsity bowling teams Wednesday.

The Lady Wildcats lost by a score of 27-3 and the guys went down 29-1.

Girls’ coach Eric Bottrall said Zeeland had a solid four bowlers post great scores “and they definitely dominated this match… I think some of our bowlers just simply were too psyched up for a win and put way too much pressure on themselves. We probably had our worst performance of the season.”

There was a couple of bright spots in spite of the defeat. Lilly Gates rolled a  188 to take a point and freshman Kadence Bottrall had games of 197 and 226 taking both her points against an opponent who has a high average as well.

“The result tonight is that Kadence widened her lead in the (individual) average category,” the coach added.

“The good news is our team is young and I think we can attribute this to inexperience. With experience our ladies will gain some needed confidence going into big matches.”

The Lady Wildcats now own a dual match record overall of 8-2-1.

Boys’ coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak said after her team’s loss, “There isn’t much to say, so I will just focus on the bright spot of the night —Alan Beggs with a 196 game despite opens in his first two frames… Another small bright spot was a decent first Baker game.”
