Sophomore guard Emma Ludema

Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth nearly broke the school individual game scoring record Tuesday night in the Wayland girls’ 68-37 romp over Black River.

The Lady Wildcats roared to their fifth victory without a loss this season, featuring a 40-point performance by the 6-2 Ainsworth.

Wayland, which led 36-11 at the half, right is gunning for a perfect 6-0 record at the holiday break. Coach Wes Hudson’s group can do just that with a victory at home Thursday evening against a pretty decent Hopkins outfit.

Ainsworth collected 14 field goals and 12 free throws to score her 40 points. She nearly eclipsed the school record 40 points scored in one game by both Angie Farmer and Presley Hudson.

Sophomore guard Emma Ludema  netted seven points and Parrish Hudson and Kenzie Wolf both had five. Hudson, Wolf and Maddy Probst each swished a three-point field goal, besides obviously feeding their teammate inside for easy buckets.

After their game with Hopkins Thursday, the Lady Wildcats will take a break until January.
