Four-year Wayland High School girls’ golf standout Ali Martus opened her season by tying her best 18-hole round with a 76.
Martus, who will be seeking her fourth trip to the state championship meet later this fall, pulled off the feat at the Diamond Springs Gof Course in the Hamilton Invitational Tournament.
However, Wayland finished seventh in the 11-team field with a team score of 435.
Spring Lake won the invitational with a four-player round of 337. St. Joseph was 16 strokes back in the runner-up slot at 353 and East Grand Rapids and Hastings tied for third with a total score of 384. Finishing behind Wayland were Allegan at 441 Zeeland East 449, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 465 and Tri-County.
Also scoring for Wayland were returning veteran Alexis Kirschbaum with a 93 and newcomer Lauren Drew at 119.
