All Wildcat boys finish in under 18 minutes at 5K race

The ever-improving Wayland High School cross-country teams continued their recent successes on the five-kilometer courses Tuesday at the most recent O-K Gold Conference jamboree at the Gracewil Country Club, hosted by Kenowa Hills.

The Wildcat boys, who placed seventh in an earlier meet, leaped two places to fifth with 96 team points, Forest Hills Eastern won with 83, Catholic Central had 90, South Christian 92 and Cedar Springs 94. So the green and white were just six points away from second place.

Though they didn’t have any runners on the individual top 10 list, the ‘Cats had good bunching and most of the local harriers had personal best performances. All of the top five Wayland runners finished the race in under 18 minutes.

Devin Weaver led the way by checking in 14th with a time of 17:21.44. Travis Koon was right behind him in 15th (17:27.54) sophomore Henry Oudbier 20th (17:33.93), freshman Dylan Pallett 23rd ((17:38.62) and sophomore Isaac Dyer 24th (17:41.10).

The Lady Wildcats finished eighth among the eight teams.

Olivia Barabas took eighth in (19:44.05. Elliot Antel was 25th, Hannah Smith 26th, Emily Tuinstra 59th and Sara Wolowicz 66th.
