Parrish Hudson

“If it wasn’t for bad luck,” the Lady ‘Cats basketball team “wouldn’t have no luck at all.”

The Wayland girls had to play one of the top Class A teams in the state at East Grand Rapids without their point guard and second leading scorer, junior Parrish Hudson, who was sidelined by a concussion she suffered in the victory Tuesday over Wyoming.

So it wasn’t all that surprising the Lady Wildcats were doubled up 72-36.

The two teams were knotted at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter, but then East went on a 22-5 run in the second period to take a commanding 30-13 advantage into the intermission.

Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth, who missed two ballgames because of an injury a couple of weeks ago, led Wayland with 17 points. Sophomore Emma Ludema added seven and Mady Terry and Kenzie Wolf had five apiece.

The Lady Wildcats now are 11-6 overall for the season.

Laster in the evening, the improving Wayland boys’ basketball team suffered its second single-digit loss in its last three contests, 58-52 to an East Grand Rapids team that now sports an overall record of 12-4.
