Both the Hopkins boys’ and girls’ teams had a good day at their track Tuesday afternoon, sweeping dual meets against visiting squads from Kelloggsville and Wyoming Godwin Heights.

The Vikings dominated field events, particularly the throws again.

Junior Tanner Neuman came up with his personal best performance to win the shot put at 42-11.25, even eclipsing customary first-place finisher Mason Tomes. But Tomes came back to win the discus at 111-0. The Viking boys swept the the top five places in the shot and all of the top four in the discus.

There were no surprises in the girls’ throws, as junior Grace Brenner took the shot at 33-7 and the discus at 75-7.

Freshman Landen Klinge, fresh from winning the Allegan Invitational Saturday, took first in the pole vault with his best-ever 12-3 and Neuman placed second at 9-0. Sophomore Noah Corneille went 17-2 to take the long jump.

Also having a big day was junior Trevor Shealy, who won the 200-meter dash in 23.9 seconds and the open 400 in 56.7. He barely edged teammate Nolan Hugmeyer by three-tenths of a second.

Freshman Isaac Koperski won the 110-meter hurdles in 19.35 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 49.8.

Michael Barry, Adam Ball, Hugmeyer and Nathan Onderlinde had no competition in the 3200 relay.

For the ladies, freshman Helena Kerber checked in first in the 800-meter run in 2:46.8, Alex Jackson won both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, and the 3200 relay team of Jaeden Harshberger, Mary Wells, Neveah Helderop and Makenna Pendock ran alone.

Harshberger added a first in the high jump and Vanessa Barry took the long jump.

The Vikings boy and girls now own 4-2 dual meet records in the O-K Silver Conference. They have lost to Calvin Christian and Sparta.
