Freshman Olivia Barabas led all Wayland girls runners again, but the team finished sixth among six teams in the O-K Gold Conference cross-country meet Tuesday at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg High School.

The Wildcat boys placed last among seven teams, being edged by Wyoming by one point, 194 to 195.

Barabas cross the finish line at the end of the 5,000-meter race in 20:45.17, in 17th place.

Hannah Smith was 36th, Gracie Hasse 38th, Serenna VanHouten 39th and Emma Thayer 40th

East Grand Rapids, as expected, won the meet with 24 points and Grand Rapids Christian was runner-up.

Grand Rapids Christian won the boys’ competition with 38 points and East Grand Rapids was second.

Freshman Travis Koon, who like Barabas, has led the Wayland pack all season long, paced the field with a time of 19:11.04, good for 32nd place. Ian Russell was 39th, Steven Mosher 40th, Samuel Garheden 41st and Devin Weaver 43rd.
