Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in a double dual meet at Forest Hills Eastern.
The Wildcats were joined by the host school and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, all three members of the O-K Gold Conference. WHS boys defeated TK 101-36 and Forest Hills 75-62. The girls lost twice, 109-28 to the Trojans and 105-31 to Forest Hills Eastern.
The Wayland boys again were led by sprinters, as senior Ian Thompson won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and sophomore teammate Kaharrie Pureifoy was second in the 200, checking in at 23.81 seconds while Thompson broke the tape at 23.37.
Aiden Reeder and Cainon Fenn went 2-3 overall in the 400, in 56.13 and 56.66, respectively.
Fenn, Cam Mouketou, Pureifoy and Thompson hooked up to win the 400-meter relay at 45.51 seconds.
Thompson leaped 19-6.5 and Pureifoy 18-10.75 to take the top two spots in the long jumpJunior Devin Weaver turned in his personal best performance in the 800 in 2:05.06, good for a second overall and he recorded his personal best at 4:50.43 in the 1600. Capping a big day for the distance ace, he was first in the 3200 at 10:56.52.
Throwing standout Carson Noyes hurled the shot 44-8 to win that event and teammate Bronson Huyck was third.
Masen Wilson and Lucas DeWeerd went 2-3 in the pole vault, the former clearing 10 feet.
Sophomore Austin Graham was second overall in the 110-meter high hurdles at 17.47.
For the ladies, junior Breanna Hyde continued her strong performances, winning the long jump at 15-10.75 and the 100-meter hurdles in 17.61 seconds.
Freshman Kennedy Jasinski cleared 9-0 to take first in the pole vault, winning that event handily.
