The Wayland High School boys’ and girls’ track teams Tuesday afternoon both lost their season opening dual meets at Cedar Springs.
The boys lost 89-48, the girls were bested by a 73-63 count.
There were some strong individual performances by some Wildcats who were double winners.
Sophomore Laney Wolf sprinted to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.88 seconds and teammate Taylor Wolf was second in 13.93.
Freshman Megan Grogger and junior Kennedy Jasinski went two-three in the 200-meter dash. Grogger won the open 400 in 64.89 seconds.
Taylor Vriesenga and sophomore Emily VanVolkinburg went two-three in the 100-meter high hurdles. Van Volkinburg came back to win the 300-meter hurdles in 57.44 second, the only girls’ harrier to finish the race in under a minute.
The Lady Wildcats claimed three of the four relays.
The 400-meter relay team won with sprinters Taylor Wolf, Jasinski, Jersey Beckwith and Laney Wolf in 53.84 seconds. Taylor Wolf, Elliot Antel, Ana Teunissen and Laney Wolf took the 800-meter relay in 1:56.88. Ava Makowski, Ashlee Wesaw. Kinda Kryzminska and Kaeli Whip captured first in the 3200-meter relay without a time reported.
Taylor Hoogewind won the shot with a distance of 28-10 and teammate Mackenzie Kositsky was third. Hoogewind also won the discus, in 93-11.
Freshman Gwen Howard was first in the high jump at 4-9 and Addyson Moyle was second.
Jasinski won the the pole vault at 10-0 and Megan Stack was third.
In the boys’ competition:
Austin Graham, first in the 110-meter high hurdles, in 15.08 seconds and in 300-meter hurdles, in 40.51 seconds.
Adam Huff first in the shot put at 50-07.5 and in the discus at 163-01..
Junior Maurgan Howard cleared 5-10 to take first in the high jump and Carter Maquard was third at 5-8.
Warren Smith was second in the pole vault at 10-0 and Jackson Byers third at 9-6.
Geno Weirckz, second in 200-meter run, 24.44, four-tenths of a second off first.
Maurgan Howard and freshman /Jake Reeder went two-three in the 400.
Dylan Pallett, second in 1600, 4:53.45 and second in 3200 in 10:53.64.
Winning the 3200 relay was the team of Mason Fein, Ethan Manning, Reese Senneker and Austin Andringa, but no time was reported.
