Boys, Lady Wildcats both capture tri-meet victory

The Wayland boys’ and girls’ varsity cross-country teams won a tri-meet Wednesday afternoon against host Wyoming Lee and Hopkins at Pinery Park.

The Wildcat boys swept the top four individual slots and the girls captured the top three. The boys finished with team points, Hopkins had 54 and Lee 61. The Lady Wildcats accumulated 20 points, Hopkins had 44 and Lee 64.

Freshman Isaac Dyer earned his first varsity individual medalist honor by checking in with a five-kilometer time of 18:42, nine seconds ahead of fellow freshman Casey Jansen. Travis Koon was third in 19:19, Devin Weaver fourth in 20:04 and Jared Jandernoa seventh in 21:08.

Trevor Shealy paced the Vikings with a time of 20:18, good for fifth and Adam Ball was sixth in 20:39. Caleb Beilby was eighth, Zachary Wisser 19th and Dean Heiden 20th.

Sophomore Olivia Barabas took top honors in the girls’ competition at 21:01, freshman Ava Makowski was runner-up at 21:26, and Hannah Smith third in 22:08.

Elliot Antel finished sixth and Emma Thayer eighth.

Freshman Helena Kerber took fifth for the Lady Vikings, in 23:10, Neveah Helderop was seventh, Abigail Zalis ninth, Alexis Zalis 11th and Mary Wells 12th.
