Caleb Campbell has accepted the position of varsity boys’ head soccer coach for Wayland High School.

A teacher in the district for five years, he has a fourth grade class at Dorr Elementary. He succeeds Ben Sleeman, who resigned after the past season.

“He comes to us with some great soccer experience and a passion for the game,” said athletic director Justin Wilson.

Campbell has a bachelor of arts degree in science of education in 2008 from Central Michigan University and is working on his master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Michigan. This is his eighth year of teaching. His wife is a teacher as well, and they have two boys.

The Wildcats last season put together a 2-8 record in the O-K Gold Conference and were 4-14-1 overall.

Tryouts will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 9, 10 and 11. Campbell said the team hopes do two-a-days with one session in the morning from 7 to 9 and one in the evening from 6 to 7:30. Friday will just have one extended morning sessionwith coach/players meetings after.

Players are asked to have their physicals taken care of ahead of time.
