The Wayland boys’ bowling team rolled pretty well Tuesday in a 27-3 loss to Grand Rapids Northview, the 2024 state runner-up.
The Lady Wildcats, meanwhile, defeated a depleted Northview squad 29-1.
The Wildcat boys rolled Baker games of 171 and 204, yet still lost.
“That is how good Northview boys are,” coach Sherry Mikliusicak said.
Raynie Arendson and Kyle VanEss were impressive in the Bakers. Arendson had three strikes and a spare while VanEss had seven strikes and a spare.
Dominic Baker marked in 3 of 4 frames, as did Louie Harnish.
Baker rolled a decent 184 game, Wil Dewing 171, and Kyle VanEss 195. Dewing and VanEss took their points.
“We rolled an 840 team game, which is pretty average for us, while Northview rolled a 980 which is pretty average for them,” noted Miklusicak.
She singled out the effort by Jayse Henkel, who rolled a 206 game, but he had to beat a 246.
Dewing took his second point of the afternoon with a 203. VanEss rolled a 194, but needed just four more pins to earn a match play point.
As a team, we had a nice 905, but yes Northview rolled better.
“While we may have lost to one of the best teams in the State of Michigan, the boys learned a lot about oil transition on the lanes with Urethane bowling balls and oil carry down vs Reactive Resin,” Miklusicak said.
Northview had only four girls bowl.
“Our first Baker game was a 147 and our second one wasn’t so great, but we still won with a 104,” said coach Eric Bottrall.
Taking game points today were: Faith Rabideau (both games), Lily Keech, Jasmine Ortiz (both games), Brooke Trumbull (both games), and Haven Baker (both games).
High game for the ladies was Brooke Trumbull’s 192.
