The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team captured its third invitational championship this fall Tuesday by taking first in its own soggy tourney at Wayland Middle School.

The Wildcats came up with terrific bunching, taking individual slots five through nine to accumulate 30 points, 17 better than runner-up Hamilton. Hopkins took fourth with 117.

Hopkins took its second championship this season, edging host Wayland by a 56 to 57 count. Martin was fourth at 88.

Devin Weaver led the genuine pack of ‘Cat guys with a time of 18:27.12, followed by Isaac Dyer in 18:40.4, Dylan Pallett in 18:45.58 and Henry Oudbier in 18:54.64.

This probably was the first time in a long time all five scoring Wayland harriers completed the five-kilometer race in under 19 minutes.

Adam Ball led Hopkins by finishing 11^th in 19:03.74. Caleb Beilby was 29^th, Kenyon Katje 32^nd, Ryan Williams 34^th and Zachary Wisser 58^th.

Martin once again did not field a team but Eli Dykstra was was 14^th in 19:17.65 and Alex Morin finished 30^th.

Wayland’s Olivia Barabas was individual medalist with a time of 20:40.76. She was pursued by Helena Kerber and Kambria Moored of Hopkins, who took second and third, respectively.

The Wildcats’ Elliot Antel was sixth, Hannah Smith ninth, Ellie Tuinstra 29^th and Ruby Sidebotham 31^st.

For Hopkins Neveah Helderop was 11^th, Abigail Zalis 23^rd and Mary Wells 38^th.

Mercedes Morin was the Lady Clippers’ top runner, taking 12^th, Elliana Young was 17^th, Zoie Tuinstra 24^th, Samantha Stone 25^th and Chloe Billington 45^th.
