The Wayland girls’ junior varsity basketball team’s six-game winning streak came to a half Thursday in a 49-26 loss at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
The defeat dropped the Wildcat jayvees’ overall season record to 8-3.
Both the home-standing Cougars and illnesses and injuries combined to do in Wayland.
The Wildcat JVs were short-handed without the services point guard Bethany Teunissen, guard Taylor Bell and forward Hannah Sikkema.
They fell behind 15-2 in the first quarter and battled back to pull to within 25-14, but Catholic Central pulled further away in the second half.
Taryn Coughlin scored 10 points for Wayland. Sam Nieukoop had seven rebounds and Brimley Nieuwenhuis six.
