Very good Cedar Springs High School bowling teams defeated both the Wayland boys 27-3 and girls 26.5 to 3.5 outfits Monday afternoon.

Boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “Sometimes a lop-sided score doesn’t indicate how close the score really was. Tonight was not one of those nights as we went home with our tails between our legs.

“We haven’t bowled very well this week. I think the boys just want to do well so badly. It is evidenced when they warm up or bowl on the JV lanes. They tear it up, but the minute it counts they tense up.”

She said her Wildcats had 11 single pin spare misses and 14 chops in their two individual matches.

But Wayland rolled a 205 in the second Baker, which is an amazing game. Another positive was that in game two the ‘Cats  rolled 100 pins better than in their first game.

“Don’t get me wrong, Cedar Springs was a very, very good team tonight,” the coach added.

The girls fared only slightly better.

Freshman Ashlynn Dykstra tied 173-173 to get a half point in her match.

Coach Eric Bottrall said, “She is rolling the ball very well for such a young bowler. I hope she likes bowling as we want to keep her around!”

Izzy Botwinski took her point 181-138. Anchor Haven Baker took both match points, 193-186 and 167-152.

“We were able to get valuable playing time for all of our ladies today,” Bottrall said. “On the JV team today Faith Rabideau shot her new high game of 144.

Our group of ladies are young and are making great strides. Scores don’t always show the true story of their journey on the lanes. Our ladies will grow from this and continue to improve!”
