Clipper boys and girls both reach .500 mark in hoops

The Martin girls came away with their sixth win Friday, topping Lawrence 50-49 and evening their record to 6-6 as the same time the boys’ team evened their season mark at 5-5 with a victory.

It was a close game, but the Lady Clippers led most of the way, up 12-9 after one and 23-21 at the half. In the fourth quarter, Martin combatted late offensive efforts by Lawrence senior Kaytlyn Tidey, who racked up 11 points in the final eight minutes, but the Clippers were up when the clock expired.

Faith Guritz turned in a stellar performance overall, taking 20 points to lead Martin. Kiaya Warner contributed 15 points, while Jaclyn Hildebrand was held to just 5.

Tidey totaled 25 points for the Tigers, 15 of which came from three-pointers. Lawrence hoopsters Alexis Vasquez and Jasmine Hoffman each had 8 points.

The Martin boys also got a win that was by a larger margin, 53-19.

The Girls will host Constantine Tuesday evening, while the boys travel to battle the Falcons in Constantine.
