The Martin boys’ basketball team came up with two huge victories this week in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
The Clippers copped a 57-40 victory Friday night over Bloomingdale, two days after they bested Gobles 66-58 to run their SAC record to 2-1, with an overall mark of 4-5. They lost by only one point Monday, 47-46, to undefeated Holland Calvary in a nonleague game.
Martin was in control of the win at Bloomingdale throughout the contest. It enjoyed leads of 13-6, 33-21 and 47-27 at the first three period stops.
Junior forward Garrett Dill had a huge night, scoring 29 points. Brandon Buell came up with nine points and 10 rebounds, Andrew Keyzer added eight points and Tanner Curry six.
Kyle Bodfish dropped in 11 points for the Cardinals and Austin Martin counted 10.
In a game rescheduled from the snowout Jan. 9, Martin rode a strong third-quarter performance Wednesday to top Gobles. The Clippers, down by just two at halftime, 35-33, blew open a tight game by going on a 15-6 run to take a 48-41 lead and then held off the Tigers the rest of the way.
Dill again was the big force on offense, as he drilled home 27 points. Sophomore Tanner Curry added 18 and Brandon Buell eight.
Tyler Fuhrman netted 19 points, Austin Ampey 15 and Jacob Tiller 14 for Gobles.
